Lammermuir Hills - NearGifford by honz12 Lammermuir Hills - NearGifford by honz12
This photograph shows only a very small section of The Lammermuir Hills. It was taken very near the end of my walk, and unfortunately it was 1pm, so the sun was quite high in the sky, however I really wanted to try a shot like this as it was the first real opportunity I've came across since getting my new camera.
I started at the base of the hill in the middle of the group of three, walked up to the top of it, along a bit and then left the common path and trekked down through a small valley to get access to the reservoir which is snuggled in the middle of this small group of hills.

Photoshop: cropped out a fence post near the bottom of the photo, resize and border.

Update: If you would like the original 1600x1200 photograph you can download the zip file from here [link] I tried editing this file, but all i can do is edit the image.

This is a really sweet shot. Not really the sort of shot you see from the Scottish Tourist board (lofty peaks, lochs etc.), and all the better for it. I'm coming up to Scotland in May, so hopefully might see this for myself :D

Thanks Tim. I'm still new to the photography thing and due to other commitments I only get to shoot at the weekends and in broad daylight, I always have to be at other places in the peak times for photographing landscapes. But, as I've said to others I plan to return here eventually for a peak time shot!

Beginner, eh? Pretty nice for a beginner :)
A shot here at dawn would probably be amazing. Go to it!

This is a really nice shot. The colors are great. The best part for me are the shadows on the grass - probably form the clouds? It gives me the feeling that the clouds are speeding really fast across a peaceful landscape. Nice!

Sweet, looks like you picked a really lovely day and an excellent location too! I wish I could see more scenes like that but right now I'm stuck in Glasgow and don't have time (or means of transport) to go exploring.

It's a bit of a shame that there wasn't a subject in the picture, a lone tree like your wallpaper or a fellow hicker or two would have been cool...

Nice work tho... :D

on a side note, we'll look in to the editing issue.

Thanks Jark. The editing issue I think is because I never submitted a file, just the preview image... so technically there was no file to edit, only the image. But yeah in hindsight from the comments I would have liked to have kept the image with the border as the preview and had the zip for the file

Great photo Honz! Very nice composition. Did you read about the rule of thirds? :) :+fav: Very nice place, how far from home is it?

hehe, yeah the rule of thirds, can you believe I had never heard it until January?!! The hills are about 40 miles east of where I live now. They're fairly rolling hills. If I go 40 miles north of me I start heading into the Highlands of Scotland, which as I'm sure you know contain some more impressive and dramatic mountains. But I've never visited these lowland hills and they're nice easy stuff for a day out walkng and photgraphing.

This is absolutely stunning. I really like how you've captured the gradual curve of the landscape, the vast field and the arching sky, compositionally beautiful, not to mention the beauty in the landscape itself. If you have a bigger size of the original I'd love to see a wallpaper of this too, it's perfect.

Purdy. I think you should submit this to Microsoft, it can be the new "bliss" for Windows Longhorn ;)

Seriously, though, it's an excellent shot and the scenery is simply stunning. I think I should take more pics of South African wilderness, because it's every bit as beautiful as the landscape up there in the north... and more...

Keep it up... and btw... you should make a wallpaper of this too :D
