Two Little Boats by honz12 Two Little Boats by honz12
This place is on my 'must return to' list. I'm pretty happy with the composition, except the foremost mast is blurred slightly with the rocking motion of the water and the weather was miserable... the good thing was every now and then a huge wave would crash over that wall at the rear, I managed to capture a couple of them, but everything else in the composition was not perfect so I had to make do with one without a wave.
I know on my return visit I'll be able to get some better light on the cool rock formation at the rear and a much better sky.

Photoshop: pretty much straight out the camera. Cropped a small buoy out the bottom of the scene, adjusted colours and contrast and sharpness.

i think that, despite all those bad photo conditions, its what makes a photo special and unique! i think the weather describes a northen country, like yours, its the weather that makes this fantastic photo, in my opinion =)

Thanks Ana, the weather makes me think of some of the harsh weather those little boats must have endured during their lifetime.

Ah, the mist feels as if it encroaches upon the shore, even travels up the mountain to engulf everything in its path. It seems you've captured it before it takes the foreground, just as its menacing, slow force reveals itself. The colours of the boat and the bright orange buoys seem somewhat out of place, but they bring some life into the shot - especially in the reflection that mutes the colour and presents a delicate representation of the reality above it.

The boats seem almost too small for people to sail out to sea in, especially in the choppy waters I can imagine there. As well as a small house where the fishermen would gather, playing sea shanties that echo out across the water, distorted through the fog. Such mood, it's beautiful.

Yeah the rain was really starting to fall quite heavy when I took this. Like you say it muted the colours in the background perfectly, but it would take a very thick mist or rain to mute those bright colours on the boats and buoys. I tried a b&w version, but really preferred those colours coming through.
I wouldn't like to embark on a fishing trip out to sea in one of these boats, not just because they look too small or fragile for an angry sea, but they stank to the high heavens of fish, as if they had never ever in their lives been washed out properly... but they are very photogenic :D
Thanks for looking and thanks for your great comment!

Solitude. :)

I'd have never noticed the mast if you hadn't pointed it out.

the boat's color saturation really stands out against the more plain background, the composition is great too, well donoe my friend, well done

Thanks Tommy, this was also my first shot taken with a tripod. I guess I owe the plain coloured background to the continual drizzel that was falling yesterday, it created a slight misting effect.
